The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reiterated that no presidential aspirant will be guaranteed the party’s ticket for the 2027 elections.
Gossip News Now reports that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi, who recently joined the ADC, are among those vying for the party’s nomination.
While Atiku’s camp has largely remained silent about his intentions, supporters of Peter Obi’s movement have insisted that the former Anambra State Governor would not accept a subordinate role.
However, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, emphasized that no final decision has been made regarding the party’s presidential candidate, and that all aspirants remain eligible.
Abdullahi explained that the party would first seek a consensus to select its standard bearer. But if a consensus cannot be reached, the party will hold a fully open, competitive, and transparent primary.
He stated, “At this moment, there is no discussion about who will be the standard bearer or who will run as running mate. These matters have not been finalized for the 2027 ticket.
“When the time comes, our priority will be to create a consensus where possible, taking into account the challenges ahead. We are building a coalition, and our aim is to form a winning coalition.
“If consensus cannot be achieved, we will conduct a competitive primary. It will be free, open, and transparent, and every Nigerian will see that this is the path ADC intends to follow—a party that respects rules, operates transparently, and abides by its own regulations.”
