Former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta to intensify efforts toward securing decisive backing for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections. He stressed that the state’s political performance will be closely watched nationwide.

Okowa made the remarks in Agbor during a stakeholders’ meeting involving leaders from the Ika federal constituency. The gathering also served as a platform to brief party members on the ongoing nationwide electronic membership registration exercise being implemented by the APC. Among those present was the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

Highlighting the large turnout at the meeting, Okowa said the strong presence of party figures demonstrated that the APC’s structure in the constituency remains solid. He suggested that doubts about the party’s influence in the area should now be put to rest.

He also referenced Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s early public alignment with the APC, describing it as a bold political step that has drawn national focus to Delta State. According to Okowa, such a move places greater responsibility on party members to deliver impressive results in the next election cycle.

The former governor cautioned against internal rivalries and factionalism, warning that division could undermine electoral prospects. In his view, unity is essential if the party aims to dominate across all 26 wards within the Ika federal constituency and maintain Delta’s relevance in national politics.

He urged party faithful to make a clear and collective decision to remain cohesive, arguing that coordinated action would ensure victory not only at the constituency level but across the state. Delta, he said, must set an example in demonstrating loyalty and effectiveness within the APC framework.

Okowa concluded by emphasizing that the state’s electoral output in 2027 should resonate beyond its borders, reinforcing Delta’s strategic importance within the party’s broader national ambitions.

Commentary and Political Insight

Okowa’s remarks reflect a growing recognition that subnational political strength plays a crucial role in shaping presidential outcomes. By framing Delta as a focal point of national attention, he appears to be positioning the state as both a testing ground and a showcase for APC unity.

The emphasis on unity signals awareness of potential intra-party tensions, which often intensify as election seasons approach. His call for cohesion suggests that party leaders understand the risks posed by fragmentation in competitive political environments.

Furthermore, the reference to electronic membership registration underscores the APC’s attempt to modernize and consolidate its support base. Digital registration efforts may serve not only administrative purposes but also as a strategy to measure and mobilize grassroots engagement ahead of 2027.

Ultimately, the success of Okowa’s appeal will depend on whether party stakeholders can translate rhetoric into coordinated political action. If Delta achieves the overwhelming support he envisions, it could significantly influence the broader electoral narrative.
