The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports suggesting that former President Goodluck Jonathan will contest in the 2027 presidential election.

This comes after former Minister of Information, Jerry Gana, recently declared that Jonathan would be on the ballot under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Reacting in a statement on Tuesday, Lagos APC spokesman Seye Oladejo advised the PDP to allow Jonathan to enjoy his retirement rather than drag him into another presidential race.

Oladejo argued that Jonathan’s record in office lacked any “remarkable legacy of transformation or accomplishment,” adding that his candidacy would face serious hurdles.

“Indeed, if he chooses to run, President Jonathan will need more than an overdose of good luck to stand a chance. The landmines before him are numerous — legal issues, past records, and fundamental questions of capacity,” Oladejo said.

He criticized Gana’s claim that Jonathan would automatically emerge as PDP’s candidate, describing it as “premature, political theatre, and out of place in serious discourse.”

Oladejo further accused the PDP of undermining internal democracy by allowing individuals to dictate the party’s candidate, contrasting it with the APC’s “transparent nomination process.”

The Lagos APC reiterated its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledging to defend policies focused on economic recovery, infrastructure, and job creation, while warning opposition figures against heating up the polity with early campaign rhetoric.
