Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is set to formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday, Daily Trust reports, barring any last-minute changes.
Top aides confirmed that all arrangements have been finalised for Atiku to collect his membership card at Jada Ward 1, Jada Local Government Area, Adamawa State.
Atiku met earlier today with the Adamawa ADC leadership in Yola, where he signalled his imminent move, describing the ADC as the new political platform for his supporters nationwide.
Speaking to party members, he said, “In Nigeria, there is a new political movement. Today, this movement has brought us to the ADC. The people of Adamawa and Nigeria, our new party is ADC, and our new leaders in Adamawa are seated here today.”
He then asked his supporters if they would formally accept him into the party, receiving a resounding “Yes” in response.
“On Monday, I will be officially in the ADC. Before now, I was not; you were here before me. Will you accept me?” he added.
Atiku concluded with optimism: “May God allow us to witness Monday. It is tomorrow, and we are hopeful to meet then.”
Questions had lingered over the commitment of both Atiku and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to the ADC after the opposition coalition they jointly led adopted the party in July as their platform for the 2027 presidential election.
Their absence at the unveiling of the ADC’s new national secretariat last week had also sparked speculation about the coalition’s internal cohesion.
