The Labour Party (LP) has dismissed ongoing speculations about a possible alliance with other opposition parties, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in an interview with The Punch, the Interim National Publicity Secretary of the party, Tony Akeni, ruled out the possibility of Peter Obi stepping down for any political coalition or rival candidate.

Akeni emphasized that compelling Obi to withdraw from the presidential race would betray the faith and aspirations of millions of Nigerians who see him as a symbol of hope and change.

“Forcing Peter Obi to withdraw from the race is like taking away 90 per cent of the hope of Nigerians for redemption and a new beginning,” he said.

The LP spokesman noted that both Obi and the Obidient Movement remain firmly committed to pursuing their political vision, declaring that the party’s stance is clear — “forward never, backward never.”

He added that discussions about alliances or coalitions are premature, saying that any major decisions would only be considered closer to the party primaries.

“I believe at the right time, all stakeholders will come together and take the right decision. But as it stands, the Labour Party remains focused on its ideology and presidential ambition,” Akeni stated.

In a direct message to Atiku Abubakar, Akeni urged the former vice president to put national interest above personal ambition and support Peter Obi in the quest to rebuild the nation.

“Let Atiku think deeply about how he wants to be remembered — as the man who sacrificed Nigeria for his ambition and lost, or as the statesman who sacrificed his ambition for Nigeria and helped steer it toward progress,” he said.

The Labour Party reaffirmed that its goal for 2027 is to consolidate the gains of the growing Obidient Movement and give Nigerians a credible alternative capable of delivering good governance.
