Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has set clear conditions for entering political coalitions or forming alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While open to potential partnerships, Kwankwaso insists that any arrangement must guarantee him a choice between the presidential or vice-presidential ticket. Without such assurances, he says, a merger or alliance would not be considered.
Speculation has intensified around possible talks with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a party already featuring high-profile presidential hopefuls including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, and ex-Minister of Transportation Chibuike Amaechi.
Reports also indicate that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been encouraging Kwankwaso to join their ranks and back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.
Despite external pressures, the NNPP leader remained firm on his terms. Addressing supporters in Kano on Saturday, Kwankwaso stressed that his participation in any coalition hinges entirely on securing a top-ticket role.
“We are exploring potential partnerships, but any party that wants to work with me must agree to give Rabiu Kwankwaso either the presidential or vice-presidential ticket,” he stated.
Kwankwaso previously ran for president in 2023 under the NNPP banner, finishing fourth behind President Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi.
