2027: ‘No Talks Between Peter Obi and Atiku About Compromising ADC Presidential Ticket’

Paul Ibe, Media Adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has clarified that Atiku and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have not held any discussions about sacrificing or negotiating the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.

Sharing his views during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, Ibe stressed that contrary to speculation, neither Atiku nor Obi has engaged in conversations regarding manipulating the ADC ticket for political advantage.

He explained that both men are instead focused on building a strong, credible political platform capable of challenging and defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

Ibe said, “As I mentioned earlier, raising such an issue now is simply putting the cart before the horse. There has been no discussion between Obi and Atiku about the ADC ticket.”

He emphasized that both leaders understand that without a solid and dependable political platform, any ambition to challenge the APC would be futile.

“If the ADC platform is not strong and functional, then their aspirations will collapse. Their priority is strengthening the platform. Anything else is a distraction being pushed by the Tinubu-led administration,” he added.

Meanwhile, political maneuvering appears to be intensifying ahead of the 2027 elections, with opposition parties—including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the ADC—reportedly stepping up consultations to build a united coalition against the APC.

Sources who spoke to Vanguard on Tuesday confirmed that several high-level discussions are underway involving top political figures, including Atiku and Peter Obi.

“Talks are ongoing. Very soon, the outcomes will start to take shape. I won’t pre-empt the process,” the source stated.

Responding to claims that the PDP was working to recruit Obi and Atiku into a broad opposition alliance, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, dismissed the speculation with amusement.
