Former presidential candidate and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has launched a peace and reconciliation tour across the North Central zone aimed at uniting party members and reviving the PDP’s waning influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As part of the initiative, Olawepo-Hashim met with former Senate President Bukola Saraki and ex-Minister of Sports, Damishi Sango, in a high-level consultation described as a crucial step toward healing divisions within the party and restoring its strength as a formidable opposition.

Gossip News Now reports that the reconciliation mission comes just weeks before the PDP’s National Convention, scheduled for November in Ibadan, Oyo State.

After meeting with Saraki, Olawepo-Hashim disclosed that they both agreed to prioritize national unity and the party’s survival over individual ambitions.

He said, “We have resolved to work together in the interest of Nigeria — to rebuild the PDP across the North Central zone and the country at large.”

The move comes amid persistent defections and internal disputes that have weakened the PDP’s structure nationwide. Analysts believe Olawepo-Hashim’s initiative could signal a renewed push to stabilize the party and restore confidence among its members.

Party insiders describe him as an emerging consensus builder within the North Central — a region widely regarded as the PDP’s moral backbone since 1999. His renewed political visibility, many say, reflects ongoing realignments within the opposition camp ahead of the 2027 polls.
