The shocking news of Innocent “2Face” Idibia and Annie Idibia’s divorce after 12 years of marriage has stirred heated reactions from celebrities and media personalities.
On Sunday night, 2Face confirmed in a statement that he and his wife, Nollywood actress Annie Macaulay-Idibia, had been separated for some time and had officially filed for divorce. He promised to share his side of the story in due course, insisting that while his personal life was not for public consumption, he owed his fans clarity.
“Annie Macaulay and I have been separated for a while now and currently filed divorce. I would grant a press release soon to say my story… not because it is anyone’s right to know about my personal life, but because I love my people and I need them to know my innocence or offense,” he wrote.
Celebrities React
Actress Mary Remmy Njoku criticised the singer for humiliating Annie while she was already facing online backlash over her appearance on a reality TV show.
“Bro, Annie has a family o! … Since you’ve decided to humiliate her at her lowest, no wahala. Just make sure she’s healthy and okay, because when the time comes, we’ll have plenty of questions for you,” Njoku wrote on Instagram.
Media personality Toke Makinwa also blasted 2Face, saying he should be ashamed of making such an announcement public.
“This is wrong on all levels, and you should be ashamed of yourself… If you think she’s alone, let me tell you now that you’ll have to fight all of us,” she said.
Comedian Nasboi addressed fans who claimed the split made them lose faith in marriage.
“One celebrity divorce, and you start saying marriage is not for you? But you forget your parents have been married for 30 years. Stop using celebrity marriages to judge all marriages,” he wrote.
More Reactions
Businesswoman Ifedayo Agoro accused 2Face of years of mistreating Annie and worsening her pain by going public.
“First, they groom you, then you lose yourself, and then they dump you. In a time when this woman is already being insulted, you had to say this? Knowing you’ve been embarrassing her for years? Why now?” she asked.
Social media influencer Daniel Regha also described the announcement as unnecessary and urged the couple to prioritise their children.
“This better not be for that reality show. Even if they want a divorce, there’s no reason to make it messy. They should handle it like adults,” he posted.
