Aregbesola Slams APC, Says Nigerians’ Hatred for Ruling Party Is Clear and ADC Will Benefit

The political climate in Nigeria continues to shift as key opposition figures intensify criticism of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Leading this charge, Rauf Aregbesola, National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has expressed strong confidence that public dissatisfaction with the APC will ultimately favor his party in future elections.

Speaking at the inauguration of the ADC Secretariat in Ilorin, Kwara State, Aregbesola painted a grim picture of the nation’s current state. He attributed widespread hardship to what he described as ineffective leadership, arguing that economic struggles, insecurity, and infrastructural decline have become defining features of governance under the APC.

Rather than repeating his exact remarks, Aregbesola suggested that the current administration has allowed governance to drift away from public service toward self-interest, leaving many Nigerians grappling with rising hardship and uncertainty. His comments reflected a broader sentiment that citizens are increasingly disillusioned with the ruling party.

Gossip News Now recalls that the former Interior Minister also questioned the ruling party’s tolerance for opposing voices. He implied that a confident government would not feel threatened by dissent, adding that recent political developments suggest a growing unease within the APC when faced with opposition figures.

According to his position, the dissatisfaction among Nigerians is no longer subtle but widely visible, creating a political opening that the ADC intends to capitalize on. He expressed optimism that the party is strategically positioned to convert public frustration into electoral support.

Adding to the momentum, former Kwara State governor Abdulfatah Ahmed described the unveiling of the ADC Secretariat as more than just a symbolic event. He framed it as the beginning of a new political direction in the state, one that aligns more closely with the expectations and aspirations of the people.

Meanwhile, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, reinforced the party’s stance by highlighting the challenges faced by rural communities, particularly in relation to insecurity and its impact on farming. He indicated that the conversation has shifted from whether people still support the APC to whether the ADC can effectively present itself as a credible alternative.

In a rephrased expression of his view, Abdullahi emphasized that the real challenge ahead lies in convincing voters that the ADC has both the structure and vision needed to replace the ruling party, especially as the next election cycle approaches.

Political Insight and Emerging Trends

The statements from Aregbesola and other ADC leaders suggest a deliberate effort to position the party as the primary beneficiary of growing public frustration. By focusing on governance failures and societal challenges, the ADC appears to be crafting a narrative centered on accountability and reform.

However, while public dissatisfaction can create opportunities, translating that sentiment into electoral success requires more than criticism. The ADC will need to present clear policies, strong grassroots mobilization, and credible leadership to truly capitalize on the perceived weaknesses of the APC.

At the same time, the APC may view these criticisms as a signal to recalibrate its strategies ahead of 2027, making the political contest increasingly competitive as both sides seek to win over undecided voters.
