Member of the House of Representatives, Adedeji Stanley Olajide, has officially ended his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, marking another significant political shift ahead of future elections in Nigeria.
The Oyo lawmaker, widely known by supporters as Odidiomo, currently represents the Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.
Resignation Letter Submitted To PDP Ward Leadership
Olajide formally communicated his decision through a resignation letter dated May 5, 2026, addressed to the PDP chairman of Ward 11 in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.
His departure from the opposition party was later confirmed in a statement released by his media aide, Tolu Mustapha.
According to Gossip News Now, the lawmaker explained that his decision came after extensive discussions with political allies, supporters, and stakeholders within his constituency.
Lawmaker Describes Exit As Difficult Decision
In his resignation message, Olajide reportedly acknowledged that leaving the PDP was not an easy step.
However, he maintained that current realities within the political environment influenced his decision to seek a platform he believes would better accommodate stability, inclusion, and progressive political participation.
The federal lawmaker also hinted that his future political direction would largely depend on the interests and expectations of the people he represents.
Olajide Reflects On Time Spent In PDP
The lawmaker used the opportunity to appreciate the PDP for the role the party played throughout his political career.
He stated that since becoming a member, he had contributed actively to the party’s development and electoral achievements within Oyo State.
Olajide additionally noted that the support he received from party leaders and members contributed significantly to both his election and return to the House of Representatives.
Appreciation Extended To Party Members
Despite leaving the PDP, the federal lawmaker insisted that his relationship with members of the party remains cordial.
In a differently structured remark, he expressed gratitude for the trust, opportunities, and cooperation he enjoyed during his years within the party structure.
He also stressed that his resignation was not motivated by bitterness or hostility toward the party leadership or its members.
Future Political Plans Still Unclear
Although speculation has already started regarding his next political destination, Olajide did not publicly announce the platform he intends to join.
His resignation, however, comes at a period when several politicians across the country are reconsidering alliances and repositioning themselves ahead of the next election cycle.
Political observers believe his next move could influence political calculations within Oyo State, especially in Ibadan politics where he commands a visible grassroots following.
Commitment To Constituents Remains — Olajide
The lawmaker assured constituents that his focus on public service and development remains unchanged despite the political transition.
He stated that any future political engagement would continue to prioritise inclusive representation, community growth, and stability for the people of his constituency.
Commentary And Political Analysis
Olajide’s exit from the PDP adds to the growing list of political defections and strategic repositioning already unfolding across Nigeria before the 2027 elections.
Analysts believe many politicians are now evaluating their long-term survival based on shifting alliances, internal party disputes, and changing political realities within their states.
In Oyo State specifically, the resignation could trigger fresh alignments among influential political blocs as parties intensify preparations for upcoming contests.
The development also reflects the increasing uncertainty within some opposition structures as politicians seek stronger platforms capable of improving their electoral chances in future elections.
