FIFA Confirms Visa Access for Iran Ahead of 2026 World Cup in United States

Fresh assurances from FIFA have eased growing concerns surrounding the participation of Iran’s national football team at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup amid rising geopolitical tensions involving the United States and the Middle East.

Iran’s Sports Minister, Ahmad Donyamali, revealed that FIFA President Gianni Infantino personally guaranteed that Iranian players and officials would receive the necessary visas to attend the tournament, despite ongoing diplomatic complications linked to the regional conflict.

The issue had sparked uncertainty for months because the World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, while relations between Washington and Tehran remain strained following recent military escalations involving Iran, Israel, and the US.

According to Gossip News Now, fears intensified after reports emerged about visa restrictions potentially affecting Iran’s participation in the competition, especially with several matches scheduled to take place on American soil.

Donyamali, however, insisted there should be no obstacle preventing Iranian players from competing at the global tournament. The sports minister expressed optimism that the entire process would proceed smoothly and allow the national team to focus fully on football preparations.

He also stressed that countries hosting FIFA competitions are expected to provide entry access not only for players, but also for coaching crews, federation officials, and support staff connected to participating nations.

To help minimise possible travel complications, Iran’s football federation confirmed that the national team plans to establish its World Cup training base in Tijuana, Mexico, close to the United States border.

The arrangement reportedly received support from Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, who indicated that Mexico was willing to host the Iranian delegation throughout the tournament period in order to avoid unnecessary visa-related difficulties.

Iranian officials also disclosed that players are expected to receive multiple-entry US visas while operating from Mexico during the World Cup campaign.

The latest developments are expected to provide relief within the Iranian camp as preparations intensify ahead of football’s biggest international tournament.

Meanwhile, members of the squad are currently training in Antalya, Turkey, where final preparations are ongoing before the competition begins in June. Reports also indicated that some players recently travelled to the US embassy in Ankara to complete parts of the visa application process.

During FIFA’s congress held in Vancouver last month, Infantino reportedly reaffirmed that Iran would play all scheduled World Cup fixtures in the United States without disruption.

Iran have already learned their group-stage opponents for the competition. The team will begin their World Cup journey against New Zealand in Los Angeles on June 15 before taking on Belgium later in the same city on June 21.

Their final group-stage fixture is expected to take place in Seattle, where they will face Egypt on June 26.
