Super Falcons defender Michelle Alozie has been named among the finalists for the 2025 FIFPRO Women’s World 11, emerging as the only Nigerian to make the prestigious global shortlist.
The recognition marks a major milestone for Alozie, especially in a year when no Nigerian male player — including stars like Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman — made the men’s list.
Alozie, who plays for Houston Dash in the NWSL, has been a model of consistency this season, contributing one goal in 18 appearances while maintaining an impressive work rate and defensive discipline. Though not primarily known for scoring, her leadership, resilience, and tactical awareness have earned her international acclaim.
Her inclusion places her alongside some of the biggest names in world football, including Aitana Bonmatí, Alexia Putellas, and Mary Earps. In the defenders’ category, she shares the stage with elite talents such as Lucy Bronze, Millie Bright, Leah Williamson, Alex Greenwood, and Olga Carmona.
The midfield shortlist is dominated by Barcelona’s creative trio — Bonmatí, Putellas, and Vicky López — while the forwards’ lineup features global icons like Barbra Banda, Linda Caicedo, Marta, and Alessia Russo.
Alozie’s nomination is a testament to her steadfast rise in women’s football, following her standout performances for both Nigeria and Houston Dash. It also cements her status as one of Africa’s top defenders on the global stage.
