An Oyo State High Court has directed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, to proceed with the party’s national convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The ruling, delivered on Monday by Justice A. L. Akintola, followed an ex parte application filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi, effectively overturning a previous restraining order issued by a Federal High Court in Abuja last week.

This latest decision comes after the Abuja court halted the convention on Friday, October 31, 2025, over alleged procedural violations.

The upcoming convention is expected to elect new national officers for the opposition party.

The Abuja suit was filed by three PDP officials — Austin Nwachukwu (Imo PDP Chairman), Amah Nnanna (Abia PDP Chairman), and Turnah George (South-South PDP Secretary) — who argued that preparations for the convention breached the party’s constitution and due process.

They sought an order stopping the event, claiming the PDP leadership failed to adhere to the party’s constitution, the 1999 Constitution, and the Electoral Act in organizing the convention.

With the Oyo High Court’s ruling, the party is now cleared to move forward with its convention plans, pending any further legal actions.
