The Forum of State Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its full backing for National Chairman Umar Damagum, dismissing the faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed as illegitimate and unconstitutional.
In a communiqué following their meeting on Thursday, November 6, the 29-member forum confirmed that Damagum remains the only recognized National Chairman under the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended).
“The forum wholly dissociates itself from the alleged Abdulrahman Mohammed leadership and wishes to categorically state that the PDP has only one National Chairman, His Excellency Umar Damagum,” the statement read.
The chairmen commended the collaborative efforts within the party, highlighting the coordination between the National Working Committee (NWC), the PDP Governors’ Forum led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, and the Board of Trustees chaired by Senator Adolphus Wabara.
Highlighting the importance of party discipline, the forum instructed all state chapters to sanction members whose actions undermine unity and stability.
“The Forum emphasizes the critical importance of discipline within the Party and urges all State Chapters to apply the relevant provisions of the Party Constitution to sanction members whose conduct threatens the cohesion and collective interest of the PDP,” the communiqué added.
With the National Convention on the horizon, the state chairmen called on all recognized delegates to participate actively, ensuring the election of credible leaders committed to the party’s principles. They stressed that the convention must uphold transparency, fairness, and internal democracy.
Reiterating their support for the Damagum-led NWC, the forum pledged continued collaboration with the national leadership to strengthen the PDP and prepare for future elections.
“The Forum reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the unity, progress, and electoral success of the PDP at all levels and pledges to work closely with the National Leadership to enhance internal democracy and rebuild public confidence in the Party,” the statement concluded.
