Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has lauded Michael Olise for turning down a move to Chelsea and joining Bayern Munich, calling it a “career-defining decision.”

Richards praised the 23-year-old French winger for the growth he has shown since his 2024 switch to the Bundesliga giants.

“He has taken his game to the next level,” Richards told OneFootball.

Bayern Munich secured Olise’s signature despite strong interest from Chelsea. Following the missed opportunity, the London club went on to strengthen their attack by signing Pedro Neto, Alejandro Garnacho, and Estevão.

Richards emphasized that Olise made the smarter choice by opting for Bayern, noting the increased playing opportunities he has enjoyed.

“What a move that was for him. Because if he had gone to Chelsea, he might not have played as much as he would have liked,” he explained.
He added that Chelsea’s fierce competition among wingers could have limited Olise’s development.

Since joining Bayern, Olise has quickly cemented his place in the starting lineup, a remarkable achievement at a club renowned for its high standards.

“He’s gone straight into Bayern Munich and played. He is the main man there, which is crazy for Bayern Munich,” Richards said.
