Legendary Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face, has revealed that his hit song ‘African Queen’ became a challenge for him, despite launching his career to greater heights.
Gossip News Now reports that ‘African Queen’ remains one of 2Face’s most popular tracks, beloved by fans across generations.
In a recent episode of the Entertainment & Lifestyle show, the 50-year-old artist explained that while the song brought him immense success, it has also posed challenges over the years.
He shared: “‘African Queen’ has been a huge blessing, but it has also brought its share of problems for me. Nonetheless, I’m grateful for everything.”
Released in 2004, the song propelled 2Face to international fame, making him the first African artist to win the BET, MTV Europe, and MOBO awards.
However, the track has sparked debates and controversies for more than twenty years.
The earliest dispute involved 2Face’s former bandmate, Blackface, who repeatedly claimed that the singer had taken the song from him.
In a previous interview, 2Face acknowledged that ‘African Queen’ was initially a collaborative effort with his former bandmates but firmly denied stealing it.
More recently, controversy emerged when Billboard named the song the “greatest Afrobeats song of all time” in August 2025, reigniting discussions around the classic hit.
