The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that former Ogun State Governor and serving Senator for Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has not been suspended from the party, contrary to reports from the state chapter.

In a letter dated November 17 and signed by APC National Secretary, Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, the party clarified that the NWC has neither deliberated on nor investigated any allegation of anti-party activities against Daniel, as mandated by the APC constitution.

The clarification followed a formal inquiry by MJS Law Firm, led by Prof. Yemi Oke, SAN, which had issued a seven-day ultimatum requesting official documentation confirming Daniel’s alleged suspension.

Prof. Oke confirmed that the national leadership responded before the deadline, reaffirming that Daniel remains an active and legitimate member of the APC.

“The national leadership replied before the ultimatum expired, confirming that Senator Daniel remains a bona fide member of the APC,” Oke said in a statement on Wednesday.

In its response to the law firm, the APC National Secretary emphasized that the NWC had not endorsed or taken any position on the suspension announced by the Ogun State chapter.

Basiru wrote:

“Please take note that the NWC is yet to deliberate on this matter as provided in Articles 21.3(d & e) of the party constitution.
Consequent upon this, you are hereby requested to allow the National Working Committee to investigate the matter and take an informed decision… Until then, Sen. Otunba Olugbenga Daniel remains a bona fide member of the party.”

Meanwhile, the Ogun APC has continued to insist that Daniel’s suspension is valid. The party’s Director of Publicity, Femi Nuberu, stated that the senator was sanctioned for alleged anti-party activities during the Remo Federal Constituency by-election in August, adding that the appeal period had already expired.

“The party’s decision on this matter stands. The window to appeal has lapsed. If Daniel’s supporters want to complain, that’s their right,” Nuberu said.

His comments followed a briefing by APC leaders from Ogun East at Daniel’s Asoludero residence in Sagamu GRA, where they condemned the suspension. They described it as politically driven and aimed at sidelining Daniel ahead of the 2027 senatorial race.

They also faulted the state chapter for failing to issue Daniel a formal suspension letter, relying solely on media announcements.

Reacting to the national leadership’s intervention, Prof. Oke commended the APC for handling the matter fairly and assured that Senator Daniel remains committed to peace within the party.

“We welcome the NWC’s decision to review the matter thoroughly. Our client will continue to contribute to the progress of the party in Ogun State,” he said.
