The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), chaired by Senator Adolphus Wabara, has restated its full support for the Tanimu Turaki–led National Working Committee (NWC) elected at the party’s national convention in Ibadan.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Wabara said the BoT was satisfied that the convention was conducted in strict adherence to the PDP Constitution, the Electoral Act, and all relevant guidelines. He described the Ibadan convention as a true reflection of the “collective will of delegates and stakeholders nationwide.”

Wabara strongly condemned the recent invasion of the PDP National Secretariat by individuals he described as “expelled members and hired thugs,” accusing them of attempting to forcibly seize control of the party complex.

He noted that the same expelled elements mobilised thugs to block Turaki, PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and other key party leaders from accessing the secretariat.

The BoT praised the resilience shown by governors, NWC members, the board itself, and party loyalists who stood firm against the attackers.

Wabara faulted media appearances and statements by those expelled, accusing them of spreading falsehoods aimed at discrediting the Ibadan convention.

“Their attempts to undermine the legitimacy of the Ibadan Convention and create confusion within the party are not only mischievous but also amount to a direct assault on internal democracy in our nation,” the statement said.

Calling for accountability, the BoT urged the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the attack and ensure the perpetrators are prosecuted.

“Democracy thrives only when institutions remain professional, impartial, and shielded from partisan influence,” Wabara added.

Reaffirming its commitment to party unity and stability, the BoT insisted that the mandate given to the new NWC must be upheld.

Wabara encouraged the Turaki-led committee to remain focused on rebuilding and repositioning the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that distractions from expelled members should not derail ongoing reforms.
