PDP Crisis: Oshoma Blames Past Leaders, Says Party Turned to Wike for Help

Human rights activist Liborous Oshoma has attributed the ongoing crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the party’s past leaders.

Speaking on Arise News, Oshoma accused Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike of destabilising the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections. He argued that the PDP turned to Wike for support because previous leaders had abandoned the party when it needed them most.

“I wouldn’t trace the PDP crisis only to 2023,” Oshoma said. “I would primarily blame the past presidents the PDP produced for leaving the party at its most critical moment. Suddenly, they realised there were no funds to run the party. Some even went as far as mortgaging the party to Modu Sheriff. Atiku had left. Obasanjo had torn his PDP card. And then they quickly turned to Wike.”

Oshoma said this was the point at which the party “mortgaged its future” to the then Rivers State governor without fully considering the consequences.

“You remember the back-and-forth between the Federal High Court in Abuja and the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt,” he added. “It clearly shows something is wrong.”

He accused Wike of repeatedly turning against PDP leaders he once supported. “You wanted Uche Secondus out, he was removed. Atiku was your problem, Atiku had gone. Then Damagum came. You were closely aligned with him until now. Enough should be enough.”

Commenting on the legal disputes surrounding the controversial Ibadan convention, Oshoma criticised the ongoing “ping-pong” of conflicting court rulings.

“It’s sad and unfortunate that, even today, we still witness judgments from courts of coordinate jurisdiction clashing. One picks and chooses which to obey. In this case, the last court order, from Oyo State, was followed, and they went ahead with the convention,” he said.
