Rauf Aregbesola, National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), on Tuesday launched a strong critique of the ruling party, asserting that its failures are rooted in the fact that “God is not with them because they didn’t start with God.”

Speaking in Osogbo during the ADC’s unveiling event, Aregbesola addressed supporters on the current state of the nation and the political landscape ahead of the next elections. He accused the current administration of selfishness and incompetence, claiming its policies have worsened economic hardship, insecurity, and governance in the country.

“They tried their best, but God is not with them because they didn’t start with God. They are selfish. They have been disgraceful in all standards—in the economy, security, governance, and beyond,” he said. Aregbesola added that the ruling party has lost both moral authority and public support nationwide.

The former Osun State governor expressed confidence that the upcoming elections would not be manipulated, warning that the ruling party’s usual tactics would fail.

“They cannot rig the election; we know their strategies. Focus on taking care of older women, clothe them well, have them seated at different polling units on election day, and leave the rest to us,” he told supporters. Aregbesola cautioned that any attempt at electoral manipulation would face strong resistance from the people and divine judgment.

Aregbesola positioned the ADC as the best political alternative to address Nigeria’s challenges, including poverty, hunger, maladministration, and insecurity. He noted that the event was symbolic, marking 15 years since his administration first assumed office in Osun State—the same location where he was once sworn in as governor.

Looking ahead, the former governor predicted that the ADC would regain power in Osun and expand its influence nationally. “By August next year, we will certainly meet in Abere; after August, we will take over the presidency,” he declared.

He further emphasized that his political legacy continues to resonate with Osun residents. “There is nowhere in Osun where people do not identify with what we represent. Our achievements and legacies continue to speak for us, which is why we receive such warm receptions, particularly in Osogbo,” Aregbesola said.

The ex-governor concluded that the public support demonstrates that the ADC remains a significant force in Osun’s political landscape.
