The Forum of State Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its commitment to “soldier on” despite what it describes as deliberate pressures, orchestrated hostilities, and institutional challenges facing the party.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the forum also pledged unwavering support for the party’s new National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki (SAN), as the PDP transitions under fresh leadership following its Ibadan National Convention.
The declaration was jointly signed by the forum’s chairman and Edo State PDP Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, along with 25 other state chairmen.
The statement described the newly inaugurated 20-member National Working Committee (NWC) as a stabilising force expected to guide the party through internal tensions and external pressures.
“In the face of calculated pressures, orchestrated hostilities, and callous institutional oppressions, we reaffirm our unshakeable resolve to soldier on in defence of the enduring ideals of the Peoples Democratic Party,” the statement read.
It further noted that Turaki’s leadership presents a critical opportunity for consolidation within the party’s national structure.
The forum extended appreciation to the PDP Governors’ Forum, with special acknowledgment to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for hosting a smooth and successful convention that elected the new NWC.
“We convey profound appreciation to His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, for the seamless, well-organised, and successful hosting of the elective National Convention,” the statement said.
Other governors commended included Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum; Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), chairman of the Convention Organising Committee; and Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau) for their coordination during a politically sensitive period.
The contributions of Dauda Lawal (Zamfara) and Ademola Adeleke (Osun) were also highlighted for their roles in maintaining party cohesion.
The PDP National Elective Convention, held in Ibadan from November 15 to 16, produced the new NWC, which is expected to strengthen the party’s operations nationwide.
