Veteran actress Shirley Igwe has responded to the Actors Guild of Nigeria’s decision to lift her suspension following an on-set incident in Lagos on July 19.
The news of her reinstatement, confirmed this week, came as a relief for Igwe, who said it helped clear her name after months of uncertainty. She expressed gratitude for the support she received throughout the process, which she said kept her grounded and reassured her that her side of the story was finally understood.
Reflecting on the July incident, Igwe explained that she had acted in self-defense when the situation escalated. She added that the experience taught her the importance of staying calm, even when treated unfairly, and highlighted how quickly misinformation can spread.
The actress revealed that she now plans to approach future movie sets with greater caution, keeping a clear mind, improving communication, and letting her manager take a more active role in guiding interactions to prevent misunderstandings.
During her suspension, Shirley used the break to rest, reflect, and reconnect with her passion for acting. She said the pause allowed her to reconsider her career path and become more deliberate about the projects she chooses to take on.
