Former presidential candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Dan Nwanyanwu, has said that those calling on former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election only want to “use him to clean up their mess.”

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Nwanyanwu argued that the same political actors pushing Jonathan to return to the race are the ones who abandoned him during the 2015 election.

He warned that Jonathan should be cautious about responding to such calls, insisting that the political environment has not yet reached the point where those responsible fully understand the consequences of their past actions.

When asked directly if Jonathan should run again, Nwanyanwu stated:
“I have not spoken with President Jonathan yet. I plan to see him soon. But my advice is that he should wait. The same people calling him back are the same people who betrayed an honest, good man with a clear conscience. They now want to use him to repair what they damaged.”

He added that Nigeria’s political problems persist largely because many actors refuse to follow party rules and constitutional arrangements. According to him, power rotation agreements are often ignored, and he believes the South still deserves an additional four years in power—though, in his words, “If I say it, they will claim I’m supporting President Tinubu.”
