LP Chairman Otti Warns Abure Faction: “The Gods Will Hit You”

Internal tensions within the Labour Party have intensified after a prominent party leader in Abia State publicly challenged actions taken by a rival faction of the party’s leadership.

Emmanuel Otti, who heads the Abia State structure associated with the faction led by Nenadi Usman, accused the group loyal to Julius Abure of disregarding a ruling delivered earlier in 2025 by Nigeria’s Supreme Court.

According to him, the legal decision issued in April placed restrictions on the conduct of party congresses across the country. He argued that any gatherings or congresses organized afterward by the opposing faction should therefore not be recognized.

Speaking on the matter, Otti criticized the meetings held by Abure’s supporters, insisting they lacked legitimacy. He warned that ignoring the authority of the courts could attract serious consequences, emphasizing that the nation’s laws must be respected by political actors.

In a strongly worded remark, he suggested that those who disregard judicial decisions could face repercussions, stating that anyone who deliberately violates the rule of law risks inviting misfortune upon themselves.

Abia Governor’s Relationship With Party Members

Beyond the leadership dispute, the Abia chairman also addressed claims circulating about the administration of Alex Otti. Some critics had alleged that Labour Party members were being sidelined in government appointments.

Rejecting these claims, he maintained that individuals who played key roles in securing the governor’s electoral victory have not been neglected. Instead, he argued that many party supporters are actively participating in the state’s governance structure.

Feedback From Grassroots Party Structures

Otti further explained that recent engagements with party members across several local government areas provided insight into how grassroots supporters view the administration’s performance.

The visits, which combined sensitization and internal assessment meetings, reportedly revealed that party members are largely satisfied with the progress recorded by the state government so far.

Confidence Ahead of Future Elections

Looking ahead, the Abia Labour Party leader expressed strong optimism about the party’s chances in the next election cycle. He predicted that the party and Governor Alex Otti would secure victories in upcoming contests across the state.

According to him, the governor’s development initiatives and governance style have strengthened public confidence in the party’s leadership within Abia.

Commentary and Analysis

The ongoing disagreement within the Labour Party highlights the broader challenges facing political organizations in Nigeria when factional disputes emerge. Conflicts over leadership legitimacy, congresses, and internal decision-making often create divisions that can weaken party cohesion.

Analysts note that such disputes can have long-term implications, particularly when they involve court rulings and competing leadership structures. If unresolved, factional battles may affect the party’s ability to coordinate strategies ahead of future elections.

However, the Abia faction’s confidence in the state government’s performance suggests that regional political dynamics may remain stable despite national disagreements within the party.

As Nigeria gradually approaches the 2027 elections, the Labour Party’s ability to reconcile its internal factions could play a significant role in determining its future influence on the national political stage.
