Prince Dotun Babayemi, a leading governorship aspirant in Osun State under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has reaffirmed his commitment to the party despite being disqualified from the December 13, 2025, primary election.
Gossip News Now reports that Babayemi, along with six other aspirants, was barred by the APC Screening Committee for alleged breaches of party guidelines, the constitution, and the Electoral Act.
Other aspirants disqualified include former Deputy Governor and APC National Secretary Senator Iyiola Omisore, immediate past Deputy Governor Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke (SAN), and Babatunde Haketer Oralusi.
While some of the disqualified candidates initially dismissed the ruling as “a huge joke,” Babayemi issued a statement on Wednesday affirming that he accepted the decision in good faith. He urged his supporters to remain calm and continue backing the party ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Babayemi said, “As a gubernatorial aspirant, I have visited 299 of the 332 wards in Osun State, spreading President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope message and emphasizing the supremacy of our party. I will respect the decision on who carries the party’s flag in 2026.
“In recent days, our party’s leadership at the national and state levels, under the wise guidance of President Bola Tinubu, has been working to resolve emerging issues with a view to uniting the party and reclaiming power in Osun in 2026.
“I reaffirm my dedication to the ideals of the Progressives and pledge to abide by all resolutions of the party regarding the 2026 governorship election. Delivering good governance to our people is a goal that transcends individual ambitions.”
