Tensions within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State have intensified following the suspension of three senior party officials by a prominent faction within the state chapter.

The decision, announced after an emergency meeting of the party’s State Executive Committee, reflects growing disagreements over leadership and internal party conduct.

According to the statement released after the meeting, the disciplinary action was taken in response to allegations that certain officials engaged in activities considered harmful to the party’s unity and credibility.

Officials Affected by the Suspension

The individuals suspended from their positions include:

Yusuf Alkali – State Secretary
Abba Galadima – Assistant State Financial Secretary (Central Zone)
Murtala Ali – State Publicity Secretary

Party leaders involved in the decision stated that the disciplinary measure was necessary to protect the party’s organizational stability.

The faction explained that the suspension followed accusations that the affected officials had participated in actions viewed as inconsistent with party rules.

The resolution to suspend the officials reportedly received strong backing within the party’s state leadership.

Out of the 33 members of the State Executive Council, 25 supported the decision, indicating a significant majority in favour of the disciplinary action.

The statement announcing the resolution was signed by Deputy Chairperson Bello Illela, who represented the members that approved the move.

In addition to the suspensions, the faction reaffirmed Bello Keegan as the legitimate chairman of the ADC in Sokoto State.

Party leaders also warned Umar Mohammed to stop presenting himself as the state chairman.

According to the faction, Mohammed has been involved in activities they described as misleading to the public and potentially disruptive to the party’s internal stability.
