ADC Crisis Deepens in Sokoto as Faction Suspends Three Senior Officials

Spread the love

Tensions within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State have intensified following the suspension of three senior party officials by a prominent faction within the state chapter.

The decision, announced after an emergency meeting of the party’s State Executive Committee, reflects growing disagreements over leadership and internal party conduct.

According to the statement released after the meeting, the disciplinary action was taken in response to allegations that certain officials engaged in activities considered harmful to the party’s unity and credibility.

Officials Affected by the Suspension

The individuals suspended from their positions include:

  • Yusuf Alkali – State Secretary
  • Abba Galadima – Assistant State Financial Secretary (Central Zone)
  • Murtala Ali – State Publicity Secretary

Party leaders involved in the decision stated that the disciplinary measure was necessary to protect the party’s organizational stability.

Reasons Behind the Disciplinary Action

The faction explained that the suspension followed accusations that the affected officials had participated in actions viewed as inconsistent with party rules.

According to the committee, some of the activities linked to the officials involved breaches of trust and behaviour considered damaging to the party’s internal structure.

The leadership emphasized that maintaining unity within the party required firm action against conduct that could weaken its foundation.

Executive Council Endorses the Decision

The resolution to suspend the officials reportedly received strong backing within the party’s state leadership.

Out of the 33 members of the State Executive Council, 25 supported the decision, indicating a significant majority in favour of the disciplinary action.

The statement announcing the resolution was signed by Deputy Chairperson Bello Illela, who represented the members that approved the move.

Leadership Dispute Also Highlighted

In addition to the suspensions, the faction reaffirmed Bello Keegan as the legitimate chairman of the ADC in Sokoto State.

Party leaders also warned Umar Mohammed to stop presenting himself as the state chairman.

According to the faction, Mohammed has been involved in activities they described as misleading to the public and potentially disruptive to the party’s internal stability.

Rival Meetings and Growing Tensions

The dispute within the Sokoto chapter has reportedly resulted in parallel meetings and conflicting directives among party members.

These developments suggest that the leadership disagreement has evolved into a broader internal struggle affecting the party’s operations in the state.

Such rival gatherings have further complicated efforts to maintain a unified structure within the local branch of the ADC.

Effort to Restore Party Stability

Supporters of the disciplinary decision argue that the suspension of the three officials was necessary to restore order within the party.

They also described the renewed endorsement of Bello Keegan’s leadership as an attempt to strengthen organizational discipline and prevent further divisions.

According to the faction’s statement, reaffirming a clear leadership structure was essential for maintaining the party’s progress in the state.

Commentary and Analysis

Internal disputes are not uncommon in political organizations, especially when questions about leadership authority arise.

The situation in Sokoto illustrates how disagreements over party structure and loyalty can quickly escalate into factional rivalries.

When parallel leadership claims emerge, the resulting confusion can weaken party cohesion and affect its ability to compete effectively in elections.

For the ADC, resolving the crisis in Sokoto may require dialogue among competing factions, clear communication from the national leadership, and adherence to the party’s constitutional procedures.

If these issues remain unresolved, the internal conflict could influence the party’s strength and credibility within the state’s political landscape.
