Why Prices Increased

Gossip News Now earlier reported that cooking gas prices spiked from ₦1,100 per kg to as high as ₦1,800 per kg across outlets after the PENGASSAN strike began in September.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Dr. Ekperikpe Ekpo, attributed the surge to:

  • The industrial action by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) at the Dangote Refinery
  • Ongoing maintenance work at the Nigeria LNG Train 4 facility

Both factors disrupted supply and pushed prices upward nationwide.
