Public outrage has erupted in India following the brutal murder of 28-year-old Nandini Parihar, who was gunned down in broad daylight by her husband, Arvind Parihar, just days after she repeatedly warned police that her life was in danger.

The Attack

The shocking incident took place near Roop Singh Stadium, one of Gwalior’s busiest areas, around noon. Nandini, who had just left the Superintendent of Police’s office after filing yet another complaint against her husband, was traveling in an auto-rickshaw with two friends when Arvind—following her in a separate rickshaw—intercepted her and opened fire.

Arvind shot her five times at point-blank range, causing chaos as terrified onlookers scattered.

Eyewitness MP Singh, a lawyer, described the scene:

“I heard gunshots and saw him fire three bullets into her. People were frozen in fear. Nobody dared confront him.”

After the shooting, Arvind reportedly sat beside Nandini’s blood-soaked body, pistol in hand, and dared anyone to approach. Police engaged in a tense standoff before overpowering and arresting him after using tear gas.

Despite emergency efforts, Nandini died two hours later at JAH Hospital.

Repeated Warnings Ignored

Records show Nandini had filed at least six complaints against her husband since 2024, including allegations of:

  • Domestic abuse
  • Attempted murder
  • Cyber harassment using AI-generated obscene images and videos allegedly created by Arvind and his associate, Pooja Parihar

Only a week earlier, on September 9, she spoke outside the SP’s office, pleading for protection:

“My husband is using AI to make obscene photos and upload them. He even tried to kill me by running me over with a car. After his release from jail, he started harassing me again. Nobody is listening to me.”

Her final warning came just days before her murder, when she told reporters:

“He is still creating obscene photos of me with AI and sending them to my family. He has tried to kill me.”

The Trigger

Police sources believe Arvind was enraged after seeing a Facebook video of Nandini attending a friend’s birthday party with Ankush Pathak, a man she was allegedly close to. Witnesses say when he spotted Nandini with Ankush and her companion, Kallu, he executed his deadly plan.

Official Response

Police spokesperson Heena Khan confirmed:

“A husband shot his wife dead under University Police Station jurisdiction. An FIR has been registered, and the accused is in custody. The victim was living separately in Delhi and had returned to Gwalior with companions, who are now witnesses in the case.”

Superintendent of Police Dharamveer Singh also confirmed that six ongoing cases were already filed against Arvind, including attempted murder.

The pistol used in the attack has been seized, and a murder case has been officially registered.

Public Outcry

Women’s rights groups have strongly condemned the killing, accusing authorities of negligence despite Nandini’s repeated pleas for protection. Activists say her death underscores the systemic failure of law enforcement to protect women from domestic violence.

For many, Nandini’s case has become a tragic reminder of how ignored warnings and delayed action can cost lives.
