Anas Yusuf of Nasarawa United has been shortlisted for the Best Striker award at the 2025 Nigerian Pitch Awards. Yusuf will compete against Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman and Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen.

The Nasarawa United striker earned his nomination after a stellar 2024–2025 NPFL campaign, finishing as the league’s top scorer with 18 goals. He has continued his impressive form this season, netting six goals so far. Last year, Lookman won the award and also claimed the 2024 African Best Player of the Year title.

In transfer news, Kun Khalifat FC have signed striker Obari Israel from non-league side Acquire FC. The Owerri-based club described the move as part of their effort to strengthen the squad ahead of the mid-season phase, with Israel expected to bolster their attack as they fight to climb out of the relegation zone. Kun Khalifat currently sit 19th with 17 points and face Wikki Tourists in their next NPFL fixture.

Elsewhere, Rivers United suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Barau FC at the Sani Abacha Stadium. Despite taking an early lead through Osimaga Duke, the Maliya Boys responded with goals from Usman Maidubji, Jimmy Ambrose, and a brace from Kabir Abdullahi, ending Rivers’ seven-game unbeaten away run. Head coach Yemi Olarewaju attributed the loss to fatigue, urging his side to focus on the next match.

Barau FC technical adviser Ladan Bosso praised his players’ character and determination, especially following a recent home defeat to Shooting Stars. Barau FC will now turn their attention to Tuesday’s clash against Nasarawa United as the NPFL season gathers pace.
