The All Progressives Congress (APC) has openly thrown its weight behind Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, encouraging residents of the state to massively support both the governor and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in upcoming elections.
The appeal was made by the APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, during an engagement with party supporters in Rivers State. His remarks were later shared in a video published on Facebook by Rivers State Television.
According to information from the Rivers State Government House, Basiru spoke on Monday at the commissioning ceremony of the Permanent Secretaries’ Quarters in Elimgbu.
While congratulating Governor Fubara and the APC leadership in the state, Basiru praised the governor’s performance, noting that his achievements reflected positively on the ruling party.
“When a governor is performing excellently, it is a credit to the party,” Basiru said. “I congratulate our governor and our party because his success translates to the success of the APC.”
He added that the best way for Rivers residents to show appreciation was by consistently voting for the APC in all elections.
“The only way to reward the governor and our party is for the people of Rivers State to continue voting APC at every level,” he stated.
Basiru expressed strong confidence that Rivers State would deliver overwhelming votes for the party in future elections, including the presidential race.
“I am confident that when the general elections come, the votes for our party, our governor, and our president will be massive in Rivers State,” he added.
Governor Fubara’s recent defection to the APC has significantly altered the political landscape of the South-South region, effectively placing all states in the zone under the control of the ruling party—an area traditionally dominated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor’s switch followed a visit to President Tinubu, coming after months of intense political tension in Rivers State. The crisis, which involved his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, resulted in a fractured House of Assembly, impeachment threats, and a six-month state of emergency declared by the president.
Since joining the APC, party leaders have moved swiftly to position Fubara as the party’s political leader in Rivers State and a key figure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The renewed call for widespread electoral support has also sparked speculation that the APC is preparing the ground for Fubara’s second-term bid.
Earlier, former presidential aide and ambassadorial nominee Ita Enang disclosed that there was an internal consensus within the APC to grant automatic return tickets to governors who defect to the party.
Basiru’s latest remarks appear to reinforce that stance, directly linking continued support for the APC with sustained backing for Governor Fubara’s administration.
