Nollywood actor Bucci Franklin has announced the passing of his mother, Joy Odurukwe.

The actor shared the news via his Instagram page on Monday, posting an obituary notice alongside the caption “Hey Mama” with a dove emoji. Details regarding the date or cause of her death were not disclosed.

The announcement triggered an outpouring of sympathy, with fans and colleagues offering heartfelt condolences and support in the comments section.

Bucci Franklin has previously spoken about the challenges of growing up without his father. In an interview with Chude Jideonwo on YouTube, he recounted that his mother raised him single-handedly, despite his father being alive but largely absent.

He described his mother as hardworking and resilient, highlighting the difficulties she faced as a single parent. Franklin also noted the importance of father figures in a child’s life, explaining that the lack of such guidance contributed to rebellious behaviours during his teenage years, including experimenting with alcohol and smoking, as well as early romantic pursuits.

Despite the hardships, Franklin said he has come to terms with his past and now maintains a different relationship with his father, reflecting on the resilience and love of his mother, who played a pivotal role in shaping the person he has become.
