The Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Adolphus Wabara, has firmly rejected claims suggesting that the party is planning to establish a National Caretaker Committee to oversee its affairs.

Wabara described such reports as false and misleading, stressing that there is no truth to claims of a caretaker structure at the national level of the party.

According to him, the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Barrister Tanimu Turaki, which emerged from the party’s National Convention held in Ibadan, remains the legitimate and constitutionally recognized leadership of the PDP.

He further alleged that the rumours surrounding a caretaker committee are being spread by unauthorized individuals, whom he accused of working in collaboration with external interests to undermine and destabilize the party.

The former Senate President explained that the Board of Trustees, which serves as the moral compass and custodian of the PDP’s assets, has not been informed of any such plan, adding that the idea of a caretaker committee is unnecessary and unwarranted.

Wabara emphasized that the party’s leadership was duly elected through a valid convention and that there has been no indication from the current NWC suggesting the need for an interim arrangement.

He also revealed that the PDP is awaiting a court ruling on matters relating to the party’s leadership and assured members and supporters that the party would respect and comply with the final judgment.

Reaffirming the PDP’s democratic stance, Wabara stated that the party would strongly oppose any attempt to weaken opposition voices or push Nigeria toward a one-party system.
