Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has launched a sharp attack on Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, accusing him of acting out of frustration and stirring internal unrest within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking during his end-of-year media briefing on Monday, Wike said Makinde’s political challenges stem from a fundamental misunderstanding of how politics works. According to him, governance and political strategy are far removed from the business-style approach Makinde is allegedly applying, likening it to managing contracts with oil companies.
Wike revealed that several senior party figures had repeatedly offered Makinde guidance on the appropriate political steps to take, but claimed the governor has consistently ignored their counsel.
The former Rivers State governor went further to blame Makinde for the ongoing turmoil within the PDP, alleging that the Oyo State governor harbors presidential ambitions but lacks the courage to openly declare them. Instead, Wike claimed, Makinde is attempting to influence party structures indirectly by positioning loyalists to advance his personal agenda.
In a related development, Wike also dismissed as outright false claims attributed to Makinde that he promised to help secure the PDP for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike clarified that no such discussion ever took place, stressing that there was never a meeting between himself and President Tinubu where such a commitment was made. He also added that Makinde has never confronted him directly with these allegations.
