Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has alleged that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is nursing resentment after failing to secure a ministerial appointment from President Bola Tinubu.

Wike made the accusation on Monday in Port Harcourt while responding to criticisms and allegations previously directed at him by the Oyo State governor.

According to the FCT minister, the issue was openly discussed within the G-5 group, which included himself and former governors Okezie Ikpeazu, Samuel Ortom, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. Wike said the group even took the matter directly to President Tinubu, who reportedly acknowledged that certain considerations may have been overlooked.

Wike claimed that Makinde’s displeasure was evident during their discussions, adding that fellow party members urged him to remain calm at the time.

He recalled a separate incident in which former Benue State governor Samuel Ortom publicly declared support for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition, a move that reportedly angered Makinde. Wike said Makinde’s decision to respond publicly rather than internally revealed growing divisions within the group.

The former Rivers State governor stated that he personally cautioned Makinde against airing grievances through the media, urging instead for dialogue and internal debate.

Wike also took a swipe at Makinde’s frequent references to his early financial success, suggesting that it continues to influence his reactions and judgment. He argued that early wealth does not necessarily translate into lasting influence, citing how long-term success is built through consistency and strategic leadership.
