Nigerian singer Peter Okoye has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic road accident involving British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua, which claimed the lives of two key members of the boxer’s team.
Reacting to the heartbreaking incident, Peter described the news as emotionally devastating, stating that he was completely shattered by the loss. He also extended words of encouragement and prayers to Anthony Joshua, urging him to stay strong during the painful period.
In a heartfelt message shared publicly, the singer mourned the deceased team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, popularly known as Latz, saying their memories and impact would never be forgotten. He acknowledged the pain of the loss while expressing gratitude that Joshua survived the crash.
The fatal accident occurred on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, around the Makun area of Ogun State, when the vehicle conveying Joshua and his team reportedly collided with a stationary truck on the highway.
Sina Ghami, who served as Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach, and Latif Ayodele, his long-time personal trainer, died instantly at the scene. Anthony Joshua and the driver sustained minor injuries and were rushed to the hospital, where the former heavyweight champion was confirmed to be in stable condition.
Authorities have since launched an investigation into the crash, with preliminary reports suggesting excessive speed and loss of control while overtaking as possible contributing factors. The Ogun State Government described the incident as tragic and appealed to motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations. President Bola Tinubu also sent condolences to Anthony Joshua and the families of the deceased.
