Traders and shoppers were thrown into panic on Tuesday evening after a fire outbreak swept through sections of the Army Arena Market in Oshodi, Lagos State.
The sudden incident caused confusion within the busy commercial area as shop owners scrambled to salvage their goods. The fire was later confirmed by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), which disclosed that emergency responders were immediately deployed to the scene.
In a statement shared on its official 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account, LASTMA announced that rescue officials were actively battling the blaze at the Arena Shopping Mall along Agege Motor Road.
Emergency teams worked swiftly to contain the inferno and prevent it from spreading further across the market.
Fuel Tanker Fire Sparks Tension in Gombe
In a separate incident, fear also gripped residents of the Tumfure area of Gombe metropolis after a fuel tanker caught fire while discharging diesel at a Rain Oil Filling Station.
The fire, which broke out in the early hours of the day, was quickly brought under control by operatives of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Gombe State Command, preventing what officials described as a potentially devastating disaster.
Confirming the development, the FFS Public Relations Officer in the state, ASF MB Muazu, said firefighters responded immediately after receiving a distress call and successfully contained the fire.
According to him, the strategic and professional response of the officers ensured that the flames did not engulf the tanker completely or spread to nearby structures.
Muazu further explained that the incident was particularly dangerous due to the filling station’s location within a highly sensitive commercial area, surrounded by other fuel stations, busy business centres, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) depot in Tumfure.
