Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has welcomed Peter Obi’s decision to leave the Labour Party and join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), calling it a significant milestone in Nigeria’s coalition-building efforts.

Obi, together with several notable leaders from the South-East, officially announced their defection to the ADC on Wednesday in Enugu State, citing a shared goal to challenge what they describe as poor governance under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

During the announcement, Obi urged opposition figures nationwide to set aside differences and unite ahead of the 2027 general elections, encouraging collaboration under the ADC platform, currently chaired by former Senate President David Mark.

Responding via his official 𝕏 account, Atiku expressed optimism about the new alignment, emphasizing that Obi’s entry strengthens the opposition and enhances prospects for an effective alternative to the current government.

Atiku also expressed his anticipation for a collaborative effort aimed at building a credible opposition capable of delivering peace, stability, and economic growth to Nigerians. He formally welcomed Obi into the ADC and expressed hope that this move would inspire other patriotic Nigerians to join the coalition.

Highlighting the broader significance, Atiku stated that the expanding ADC coalition symbolizes a unified effort to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape, offering citizens a viable choice in the lead-up to the next elections.
