A violent incident unfolded in Danmaje, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State, when a mob attacked a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) outpost, killing three individuals and setting the facility ablaze.

The Kano NSCDC confirmed that the attack occurred late Sunday night, less than a day after a similar incident in Katsina State where three other suspects were also lynched.

According to NSCDC spokesperson Ibrahim Abdullahi, the crisis began around 10:00 pm when residents of Yansango brought three unidentified men—suspected of motorcycle theft—to the Danmaje outpost for investigation. Before officers could start formal inquiries, tensions escalated.

A large crowd from Yansango and neighbouring communities, including Madinawa, Gagarawa, Limawa, Yankatsari, Danmaje, and Gurjiya, stormed the facility. They demanded that the suspects be handed over for immediate punishment. “The mob insisted that the suspects be handed over for jungle justice,” Abdullahi explained.

The crowd overpowered the NSCDC personnel on duty, forcibly entered the building, and carried out acts of violence against the suspects while setting the outpost on fire. Three NSCDC officers sustained injuries, though those on duty managed to escape the blaze.

Kano State NSCDC Commandant, Mohammed Agalama, condemned the attack and announced the formation of a committee of inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the mob action. He emphasized the corps’ commitment to upholding the rule of law and assured that corrective measures would follow the findings of the investigation.

The episode underscores rising concerns over mob violence and the practice of jungle justice in parts of Nigeria, despite repeated calls from security agencies for citizens to allow lawful processes to address criminal allegations.
