A wedding celebration in Ashige, a Migili-speaking community within Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, descended into terror on Tuesday night when unidentified gunmen stormed the venue, sending guests fleeing for safety.
The assault occurred in Akunza community while the traditional wedding festivities were underway, causing widespread panic among attendees. Eyewitnesses reported that chaos erupted as people scrambled to escape the attackers.
A youth leader from the area confirmed that at least three people lost their lives during the raid, while several others sustained injuries. Women and children were among the wounded and have been rushed to a nearby health facility for treatment.
Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the violent invasion, and no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The wave of insecurity is not limited to Nasarawa State. In neighbouring Kogi State, reports emerged of several individuals being abducted along the Omi-Odo Ara Road in Yagba West Local Government Area on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. The exact number of victims has not been officially confirmed.
Residents in the area have called on security agencies for swift action, while community members have been advised to remain vigilant, limit travel, and report any suspicious activities promptly.
The incident follows a recent attack in Odo-Ere, also in Yagba West, where at least four residents—Engr. Shina Ajere, Mr. Kehinde Afolabi, Damilola Ogun, and a woman known locally as Iya Lara—were abducted by suspected terrorists on Sunday night.
These repeated attacks have heightened fear and concern among communities across Nasarawa and Kogi states, highlighting the worsening security situation in parts of central Nigeria.
