Igor Thiago was the hero for the Bees, striking twice in the opening 20 minutes to put United on the ropes. Twelve minutes later, he doubled the advantage, reacting quickest to bury a rebound.

United offered a lifeline in the 26th minute when Benjamin Šeško scrambled the ball over the line, briefly sparking hopes of a turnaround. Those hopes could have been realized in the second half, but Bruno Fernandes saw his 71st-minute penalty brilliantly saved by Brentford’s keeper Caoimhín Kelleher.

Pushing numbers forward in search of an equalizer, United were punished late in stoppage time. Substitute Mathias Jensen sealed the win with a spectacular curling effort from distance, wrapping up a memorable evening for the home side.
