Liverpool have confirmed a summer 2026 deal to sign highly promising teenage centre-back Ifeanyi Ndukwe from Austria Wien, marking a key addition to the club’s long-term defensive plans.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that the Premier League side reached an agreement with Austria Wien, who accepted Liverpool’s proposal, paving the way for Ndukwe to join Anfield next summer. The move aligns with Liverpool’s strategy of investing in young talent for future squad development.

At 17 years old, Ndukwe has impressed at the Austria Wien Academy with his composure, physicality, and potential, making him one of Austria’s standout young defenders. He has agreed to Liverpool’s development pathway and is expected to integrate into the club’s youth and training setup upon arrival.

Born in Vienna in March 2008, Ndukwe is eligible to represent three countries internationally. With a Nigerian father and a German mother, the defender has the option to play for Nigeria, Austria, or Germany in the future.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have moved to recall two young women’s team players from their loan assignments as part of a wider squad evaluation.

The North London club confirmed on Friday that Cecily Wellesley-Smith and Naomi Williams will return to the club following temporary spells elsewhere earlier this season.

Wellesley-Smith, an 18-year-old defender, had joined Leicester City Women on loan in September 2025 shortly after signing her first professional contract with Arsenal. She made a single Women’s Super League appearance for the Foxes during her stint.

Naomi Williams spent the first half of the campaign with Bristol City in WSL 2, appearing three times for the Robins, all in the Subway Women’s League Cup.

As both players reintegrate into Arsenal’s women’s programme, the club will evaluate their next steps to continue their development and future contributions to the team.
