Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that he cannot maintain cordial ties with individuals who resist the progress and development of Rivers State.

He made the declaration on Saturday while addressing residents of Okrika during his ongoing “Thank You Visit” to various local government areas in the state, according to Gossip News Now.

Wike responded to claims suggesting he harbours ill feelings toward the Ijaw community, firmly rejecting such allegations. He maintained that he enjoys a good relationship with the Ijaw and Okrika people but drew a clear line against anyone he believes stands in the way of development.

The former Rivers State governor urged those who may have personal grievances against him to confront him directly instead of using ethnic or community sentiments as a shield. He challenged critics to address him openly rather than framing issues as broader communal disputes.

According to Wike, opposition to progress would not be tolerated, stressing that his concern remains the advancement of the state. He also remarked that individuals who claim no meaningful projects were executed in the area would not experience progress in their own lives.

In addition, Wike expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his role in ensuring that local government elections in Rivers State were properly conducted. He credited the President with helping to address what he described as earlier irregularities.

He noted that the intervention helped restore order to the councils and voiced optimism that the current leadership at the local government level would perform effectively.
