The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has restated its determination to remain a major opposition force ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that the party has no intention of backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office.
Party leaders made the position known during a political gathering held in Abuja, where the ADC inaugurated members of its zonal, state, and appeal committees as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen its internal political structure nationwide.
Speaking at the event, the National Chairman of the party, Nafiu Bala Gombe, openly rejected comments allegedly credited to Hon. Leke Joseph Abijide, which suggested support for Tinubu’s re-election ambition.
Bala clarified that the statement did not represent the official stand of the ADC and insisted that the party remains committed to offering Nigerians an alternative political direction ahead of the next presidential contest.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the North-West Zonal Congress Committee, Abimikun Monday, described the inauguration as an important development in the ADC’s broader efforts to reposition itself nationally.
Monday stated that the responsibility given to the committee reflects the trust and confidence placed in them by the party leadership. He also praised the persistence of Nafiu Bala Gombe in steering the party through internal restructuring efforts.
The Kaduna State Chairman of the ADC, Sani Aliyu Mohammed, equally assured members that the party would intensify grassroots mobilization and lawful political engagement across the country.
He expressed optimism that the ADC could emerge as one of the dominant political voices ahead of the 2027 elections if members remain organized and committed to the party’s long-term objectives.
