Governor Seyi Makinde has carried out a fresh restructuring within the Oyo State Government, introducing new appointments and reassignments aimed at strengthening administrative coordination and improving governance across the state.
One of the most significant changes announced by the governor is the appointment of Professor Musibau Adetunji Babatunde as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), replacing Professor Olanike Adeyemo.
The development was confirmed through a statement released by the governor’s media aide, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, who explained that the adjustments form part of ongoing efforts to reposition the state’s administrative system for greater efficiency.
According to Gossip News Now, the latest reshuffle also affected other strategic offices within the state cabinet, with several officials receiving new responsibilities.
Among the changes introduced, Temilolu Seun Ashamu was moved from the environmental sector to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, where he is expected to oversee matters relating to fiscal coordination and economic planning.
Governor Makinde also forwarded the name of Ademola Aderinto as a commissioner-designate. The nominee is expected to appear before the Oyo State House of Assembly for legislative screening and confirmation in line with constitutional procedures.
The governor further strengthened his advisory team by appointing Abiodun Adedoja to handle energy-related advisory responsibilities, while Kolawole Elijah Akanmu was assigned duties connected to fiscal planning and economic support initiatives.
Political observers believe the restructuring reflects the administration’s continued focus on governance reforms, economic management, and infrastructure development within the state.
Meanwhile, in a separate political development outside Oyo State, the Secretary to the Government of Rivers State, Benibo Anabraba, officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Reports indicated that Anabraba communicated his decision through a resignation letter addressed to party officials in his ward within Akuku-Toru Local Government Area.
Despite leaving the PDP, the Rivers State official reportedly acknowledged the role the party played in shaping his political career and expressed appreciation for the opportunities he enjoyed while under its platform.
The resignation has added to the growing list of political realignments and party movements currently taking place across different parts of Nigeria ahead of future elections.
Political Commentary and Analysis
The latest cabinet restructuring by Governor Seyi Makinde highlights how state governments often use strategic appointments to refresh administrative direction and improve policy implementation.
Analysts believe changes involving key positions such as the Secretary to the State Government usually signal broader governance priorities and political recalibration within an administration.
Observers also note that the resignation of Benibo Anabraba from the PDP reflects the ongoing wave of political repositioning taking place nationwide as politicians and government officials reassess alliances ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
With political activities gradually intensifying across Nigeria, more appointments, defections, and cabinet adjustments are expected in the months ahead.
