Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has urged the Igbo electorate to approach the upcoming elections with pragmatism, stressing the importance of strategic political alignment over sentimental voting.

Representing Bende Federal Constituency, Kalu made his appeal during visits across Abia State’s three senatorial zones — Abia North, Abia Central, and Abia South — where he met with influential political figures. In Abia North, he called on former Senate Chief Whip and ex-governor Orji Kalu, while in Abia Central, he visited Senator John Bob Nwannunu, and in Abia South, he engaged Mac Wabara, the former CEO of Hallmark Bank.

Highlighting the path toward producing an Igbo president, Kalu argued that building strong alliances, especially with the South West, offers the most realistic route to national influence. He reinforced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s instructions for APC leaders to enhance engagement with stakeholders across all party levels.

The deputy speaker cautioned voters against casting ballots based on emotions or symbolism. “Electoral power must be treated as an investment, not a sentiment,” he said, underscoring that votes should translate into tangible political leverage and future benefits for the Igbo community.

Kalu commended Tinubu’s leadership, acknowledging that while some policies faced initial resistance, their implementation has already begun to yield positive outcomes. He compared votes to financial investments, noting, “No investor expects dividends without first making a commitment,” emphasizing that ballots are a form of political capital necessary to secure meaningful returns.

He urged APC leaders to intensify grassroots mobilisation and strategic outreach, stressing that the party now possesses the organisational capacity and momentum needed to secure an outright win in Abia State in 2027. Kalu concluded by asserting that supporting Tinubu represents the most viable avenue for Igbo political influence in the upcoming elections, insisting that such votes would convert into real impact at both state and national levels.
