Communities in Kaduna State are once again gripped by fear following a series of violent raids by armed groups that left dozens abducted and several others dead. Residents say the attacks, which occurred across multiple local government areas, have intensified insecurity and left families devastated.
One of the most heartbreaking incidents involved Averik Arak, an elderly woman who was taken alongside her granddaughter in Arak village, located in Sanga Local Government Area. Her abduction came shortly after she lost her son, Habila Averik, who had been killed during a previous raid on the same community. Reports indicate she was still coping with grief and health challenges when the attackers returned and forcefully took her away.
Other villages also suffered similar assaults. In Unguwan Sarki Maro, within Kajuru Local Government Area, gunmen reportedly stormed homes at night and seized at least 15 individuals, many of whom were children. A separate operation in Kadage village in Kauru Local Government Area resulted in the kidnapping of about 16 people, while one resident lost their life during the violent encounter.
Local sources expressed concern over the growing scale of abductions, revealing that more than 100 people from seven nearby communities had been taken between early December 2025 and the first days of January 2026. According to them, the lack of widespread reporting on the incidents has contributed to a sense of neglect, even as affected families continue to suffer.
Another deadly episode unfolded in Kachia, where four members of the same family were killed during a late-night attack near the Federal University of Applied Science. The victims included Bitrus Bahago, his wife Justina Bitrus Bahago, their son Ibrahim Bitrus Bahago, and a relative, Adam Waziri. Witnesses said heavily armed attackers invaded the area and fired repeatedly, leaving multiple people wounded in addition to those killed.
Several injured residents were rushed to nearby medical facilities, while survivors described the ordeal as terrifying. The frequency of such attacks has alarmed locals, especially given Kachia’s closeness to key institutions and security presence, which many believed would offer protection.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kaduna State Police Command had yet to release any formal statement addressing the latest kidnappings and killings. Meanwhile, affected communities remain anxious, hoping for stronger security measures to prevent further tragedies.
