Bayern Munich have moved to downplay circulating reports linking them with Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen, emphasising that strengthening their central attack is not an immediate priority.
The speculation emerged after Osimhen’s impressive performances with Nigeria at AFCON, prompting discussions among European clubs. However, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl reportedly stated that any serious consideration of the 27-year-old would only arise if Harry Kane were to depart the club this summer.
Bild reports that Eberl clarified during internal meetings that “there is no urgency. Osimhen would only become a realistic option should Harry Kane consider a summer departure.” Current circumstances, however, suggest such a scenario is unlikely.
Kane, the England captain, retains a release clause that allows him to leave for a reported €65 million until the end of January. Despite this, sources indicate he has no intention of activating the clause, keeping Bayern’s core attacking plans largely unchanged.
As a result, any immediate move for Osimhen has been shelved. Still, the German champions are said to be monitoring the market, aiming to identify a dependable back-up striker capable of supporting Kane, although suitable candidates remain scarce.
Bild further notes that a permanent deal for on-loan striker Nicolas Jackson, currently competing for Senegal at AFCON, is considered unlikely. Bayern’s primary strategy focuses on retaining Kane while keeping options open for the long term.
Osimhen has previously expressed interest in a potential move to the Bundesliga, and intermediaries have reportedly approached Bayern on his behalf. Galatasaray, his current club, is understood to be open to offers as part of their financial planning. Nevertheless, Bayern’s current position remains firm: any renewed pursuit hinges on Kane’s future at the club.
The Nigerian forward is under contract with Galatasaray until 2029, with an estimated market value of €75 million, and continues to make an impact on the international stage with Nigeria at AFCON in Morocco.
