National leader of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has revealed that he is open to forming an alliance with another political party ahead of the 2027 elections—but only if that party is willing to offer him either the presidential or vice-presidential ticket.
Kwankwaso made this known while addressing supporters during a Kwankwasiyya gathering at his Miller Road residence in Kano. He discussed the ongoing shifts and negotiations taking place as politicians prepare for the next general elections.
He stated:
“At the national level, we are looking for a political party to align with. But it must be a party that will offer me either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot.”
His remarks come amid rising speculation regarding the political future of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who has been rumoured to be considering a move from the NNPP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Responding to these rumours, Kwankwaso dismissed them outright, describing the claims as mere imagination with no basis in reality. He insisted such a defection was simply not possible.
The former Kano governor also criticized President Bola Tinubu’s political approach, arguing against the belief that a party’s numerical strength automatically translates to electoral victory.
According to Kwankwaso, having a large number of governors under the APC umbrella does not assure success at the polls. He emphasized that credibility, public support, and governance performance are the true determinants of electoral outcomes.
