‘We Are Searching for a Party to Align With’ – Kwankwaso Speaks on 2027 Plans

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP), has revealed that he is actively exploring the possibility of forming an alliance with another political party ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, he emphasized that any such partnership would require the offer of either the presidential or vice-presidential ticket for himself.

Speaking to supporters at his Miller Road residence in Kano during a Kwankwasiyya gathering, Kwankwaso highlighted the ongoing strategic discussions and negotiations among political actors preparing for the next electoral cycle.

“At the national level, we are looking for a political party to align with. But it must be a party that will offer me either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot,” he stated, setting clear conditions for any potential partnership.

Addressing Defection Rumours

His announcement comes amid widespread speculation that Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf may consider leaving the NNPP for the All Progressives Congress (APC). Kwankwaso dismissed these rumours, calling them baseless and purely speculative. He insisted that such a defection is not feasible under current circumstances.

Critique of Political Assumptions

The former governor of Kano also challenged the conventional wisdom that numerical strength guarantees electoral victory. Referring to the APC, which currently controls a large number of state governorships, he argued that sheer numbers alone cannot secure success at the polls.

“Having many governors under one party does not automatically translate to victory,” Kwankwaso said. “What matters are credibility, public support, and the performance of governance.”
