Wike: ‘Impeachment Proceedings Is Calculated Attempt To Oust Fubara’

Political strategist Baba Yusuf has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of orchestrating the impeachment proceedings against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Gossip News Now reports that Yusuf, speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Friday, described the impeachment move as a deliberate attempt to remove Fubara from office.

According to Yusuf, Governor Fubara has been hindered from executing his mandate for over three years. He stressed that if relations between Wike and the governor were cordial, there would be no impeachment controversy in Rivers State.

“Impeachment proceedings in Nigeria typically arise from political disagreements,” Yusuf noted, adding that this reflects a broader, unfortunate reality in the country’s politics.

He further explained, “In my view, this is a game played by political gladiators in Rivers State, particularly between Wike’s camp and Fubara’s camp. This impeachment proceeding is a calculated attempt to oust Governor Fubara.

“You will agree with me that if things were smooth between Wike and Fubara, we wouldn’t even be hearing about impeachment. I sincerely hope this matter concludes soon so that the people of Rivers State—and by extension, all Nigerians—can enjoy good governance in the state.”
